The old Cape farmhouse needed a bit more elbow room to fit a better entry and a rustic eat-in kitchen with a sofa by the old fireplace, overlooking the meadow.
The Victorian horse barn was mere feet away. A small connector and a stair would let them turn its hayloft into a rec room. Our clients asked that this be a working belfry, for an Austrian bell.
The cabinets and their details were designed by Smith & Vansant, using salvaged butternut. Salvaged doors, beams, and leaded glass borrow-lites give the new construction an easy-going antique ambiance.
