Status: Completed Fall 2001.
Our design for the Pierce Residence involved the complete renovation of a beautifully sited 1950's ranch house into a stylish 5700 s.f. contemporary home with new kitchen, living room, and garage additions. The main focus of the design was to utilize the existing shell of the home while creating an entirely new spatial arrangement inside and out. A new two-story entry space introduces a playful mixture of ceiling planes, interior windows, and angled walls which carry through the rest of the house. The interior incorporates a modern palette of materials and detailing. The exterior of the building was completely re-clad in moss green shingles and natural redwood to harmonize with the surrounding wooded environment. The main entry is reached by a Cor-ten steel and redwood bridge and the house is wrapped by a new deck which captures the magnificent views of Mt. Ascutney.
