Status: Completed Spring 2004.
SVA was first engaged by the Town of Thetford in 1997 to prepare a feasibility study and cost estimate for renovation and expansion of their 1830 brick Town Hall. Debate over a new facility led to the creation of several committees to explore alternatives. Members of Smith & Vansant, who live in Thetford, worked hard for years to keep the option of using the historic building and location alive. The project was overwhelmingly approved and a bond vote passed in 2002. We worked closely with the Building Committee to design an addition/renovation that would satisfy the functional needs of the Town in a way that was sensitive to the historic fabric of the buildings. The goal was to create a dignified, but friendly building that retains the historic village atmosphere of Thetford Center. The addition, set as a backdrop to the two original brick structures, has transformed both the working spaces and the public flow of the the building. Smith & Vansant guided the Committee through the process of engaging consultants, hiring a Construction Manager, value engineering the design to meet the approved budget, and going through the construction process.
