Status: Completed Spring 2004.
SVA was first engaged by the Town of Thetford in 1997 to prepare a feasibility study and cost estimate for renovation and expansion of their 1830 brick Town Hall. Debate over a new facility led to the creation of several committees to explore alternatives. Members of Smith & Vansant, who live in Thetford, worked hard for years to keep the option of using the historic building and location alive. After presentations at Town Meeting for several years running, the project was overwhelmingly approved and a bond vote passed in 2002. Since then we have been working with a Building Committee to design an addition in a way that satisfies both the formal aesthetic and functional needs of the project. The goal is a dignified, but friendly building that retains the historic small town atmosphere of Thetford Center. Smith & Vansant guided the Committee through the process of engaging consultants, and together the team is currently refining the design and trimming costs in preparation for a Spring 2003 groundbreaking.
