Windsor County Building
Woodstock, Vermont

Renovation Completed 2003

In 2002 the State of Vermont returned the Woodstock Regional Correctional Facility, which it had leased for several decades, to Windsor County. As part of this arrangement, the State of Vermont was responsible for returning the building to something approximating its condition in the 1970’s. The Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services was involved in the administration of the contract for the renovation, although the County was the client and future occupant.

The Windsor County Assistant Judges engaged Smith & Vansant to return the historic front portion of this 1936 masonry building to its original uses. This required extensive demolition of jail-related facilities and the design of a new entry and independent office suites for the County Sheriff and the Woodstock District Probate Court. Our work included needs assessment and programming for both facilities, design and construction documents, state and local approvals, and construction administration for this fast-track and budget sensitive project.
